Vehicle classification for insurance (rating)

CESVIMAP bases itself on the data extracted from the  crash test carried out in its facilities in order to classify the vehicles according to their repair costs; to do so, consideration is given to spare part prices and also to the vehicle's ease of repair. This information is used by MAPFRE, the insurance company, to optimise and adjust the premiums for their automobile insurance policies to the real repair costs for each model. The policy holder and the vehicle manufacturer also benefit from this work.

Both for automobiles and motorcycles, CESVIMAP uses different parameters to establish this classification. In a general sense, the classification is made according to vehicle safety and its resistance to theft.

Protection against theft. The capacity a vehicle has to resist forced entry into its interior (reliability of the locking system, configuration of the elements made of glass) and subsequent unauthorised starting up of the engine. The functioning of alarms and immobilisers also. All automobiles have devices to make theft more difficult or to avoid it; however, not all the solutions adopted by the manufacturers have the same effectiveness nor is the price of these devices directly proportional to their effectiveness.
